1 Day Sundarban Tour Itinerary
Our carefully planned itinerary ensures you make the most of every hour in the Sundarbans:
Morning — Into the Mangroves
- 6:30 – 7:00 AM: Arrive at Godkhali jetty. Our guide meets you, completes forest permit formalities, and briefs you on the day ahead.
- 7:00 AM: Board the motorboat. As the boat glides into the river, the concrete world disappears and the mangrove wilderness begins. Your guide points out sundri trees (the trees that give Sundarbans its name), pneumatophores (breathing roots), and the tidal patterns unique to this delta.
- 8:30 AM: Arrive at Sajnekhali Watchtower and Wildlife Sanctuary. Climb the watchtower for panoramic views. Visit the Mangrove Interpretation Centre, crocodile breeding pond, turtle hatchery, and the Bono Bibi Temple. This is one of the best spots for bird watching — look for kingfishers, Brahminy kites, and white-bellied sea eagles.
- 10:00 AM: Continue by boat through narrow creeks. This is prime wildlife territory — your guide watches for pugmarks on the mudflats, deer movement in the tree line, and crocodiles basking on the banks.
Midday — Tiger Territory
- 11:00 AM: Reach Sudhanyakhali Watchtower — the most famous spot for Royal Bengal Tiger sightings in the entire Sundarbans. The watchtower overlooks a freshwater pond where tigers, spotted deer, and wild boars come to drink. Spend time scanning the tree line and grassland for movement.
- 12:30 PM: Return boat journey through a different route, exploring more creeks and wildlife corridors.
- 1:00 PM: Lunch on the boat — authentic Bengali meal with rice, dal, fish curry, vegetables, and papad. Enjoy your meal while surrounded by the silence of the mangroves.
Afternoon — Creek Exploration and Return
- 2:00 PM: Explore additional mangrove creeks. Your guide helps you spot monitor lizards, mudskippers, fiddler crabs, and various water birds. If lucky, you may see Gangetic dolphins surfacing in the wider river channels.
- 3:30 PM: Begin the return journey through the river, watching the afternoon light paint the mangroves golden.
- 4:30 – 5:00 PM: Arrive back at Godkhali jetty. Tour concludes.

How to Reach Godkhali for the 1 Day Tour
From Kolkata by car: Take the Basanti Highway via Baruipur. Distance is approximately 100 km, taking 3-4 hours. You need to leave Kolkata by 3-4 AM to reach Godkhali by 7 AM.
From Canning by auto: If you take an early morning train from Sealdah to Canning (first train at 5:15 AM), you can reach Godkhali by 7:30 AM via auto-rickshaw. This is the cheapest option.
Is a 1 Day Sundarban Tour Worth It?
The honest answer: it depends on your expectations. A 1 day tour gives you a genuine taste of the Sundarbans — the boat safari experience, the eerie silence of the mangroves, watchtower visits, and wildlife spotting. You will see crocodiles, deer, dozens of bird species, and the mangrove ecosystem up close. However, tiger sightings require patience and time, so your chances are lower on a 1-day visit compared to a 2 Nights 3 Days package.
Best for: Kolkata visitors with limited time, first-time explorers who want a preview, budget travellers, and anyone who simply wants a unique day out in nature.
